ABSTRACT
The role of the ideology of nature in the expression of place has changed over time. Residential settlement in Calgary, Alberta, has evolved in just over a century from its early form consisting of a grid pattern of streets extending from the railway, to various types of speculative development, to planned neighborhood units, to more generic subdivisions.
