ABSTRACT
THERE is no thrill to equal that of approaching a foreign country for the first time, especially after many days at sea. The water is calmer, gulls begin to circle about the ship in great numbers, joining hardier ones which have made the entire trip, and the sails of small boats dispel the loneliness of the open sea.
