ABSTRACT

X F people possess virtue they are honoured. If they lack it they are distrusted. This respect and this distrust are alike independent of intellectual attainments or physical prowess.

The respect or dishonour in which men are held does not by any means depend upon the possession of such qualities. It is the possession of virtue or the lack of it which determines whether we shall respect a man or repudiate him.
