ABSTRACT

One of the mandates of the Research Unit on International Migration set up by the Ministry of Indian Overseas Affairs, Government of India, at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) has been to pursue, promote and disseminate research relating to issues concerning international migration from India. With the existing scientific and research capacity, this research unit has the vision to conduct research on migration throughout the country. Therefore the Unit at the CDS was interested in teaming up with the Government of Goa to conduct a migration research project in the state of Goa. The main objective of the Goa Migration Monitoring Study (GMMS) is to collect qualitative data on migration to and from the state of Goa and to analyze its pattern and impact on the society and economy. This study is being carried out as a collaborative venture between the CDS, Thiruvananthapuram, and the Office of the Commissioner for Non-Resident Indian Affairs, Government of Goa.
