ABSTRACT

A report in the India Strategic Defence magazine states that India is set to spend a massive $200 billion on defence acquisitions over the next twelve years, i.e. 2022. Nearly half of this funding would be for the air force to replace more than half of its combat jet fleet as well as the entire transport aircraft and helicopter fleet. The army is in need of new guns, tanks, rocket launchers, multi-terrain vehicles and helicopters. The navy proposes to acquire an inventory of ships, aircraft carriers, an entire new range of submarines including nuclear-propelled and nuclear-armed, jets, helicopters, and a fleet of nearly 100 carrier-borne combat jets. 1
