ABSTRACT

The large heterogeneity in innovation modes in Europe detected in Chapter 7 has called for a variety of empirical analyses aimed at measuring the efficiency of each pattern of innovation on economic performance. The previous chapters have focused on the efficiency of each territorial pattern of innovation in producing new knowledge from both internal and external knowledge inputs (Chapters 8 and 9, respectively) and in generating economic growth from knowledge inputs as suggested by the Lisbon and Europe 2020 Agendas (Chapter 8).
