ABSTRACT

The Persians, like the Medes, were divided into tribes— the Pasargadse, Maraphii, Maspii, Panthialsei, Derusiæi, and Germanii, all agriculturists, and the Dai, Mardi, Dropici and Sagartii, who had remained nomads. 1 The Pasargadæ were the most important, and the Hakhamanish were a clan of this tribe.
