ABSTRACT

In the first centuries of the Ch'un Ch'iu period, political isolation ceases. To resist the raids of the Jong and the Ti, or to repress the internal disorders of an overlordship, temporary alliances were formed, unstable and without much power. They form and dissolve according to the needs of the moment, in response to the interests of the canton. They aim at the maintenance of the local statics quo. Then the feudal principle of mutual assistance seems the rule.
