ABSTRACT
The Lankãvatãra-sūtra is important not only as the chief canonical text for the doctrine of subjective idealism but also on account of its curious literary character as a sūtra. It is essentially the same doctrine as is later found in the Yogãchãra of Asanga and Vasubandhu. 1
