ABSTRACT

In the water sector, the important role of climate change and its impacts are increasingly being recognized. Water is one of the primary transmitters of climate change effects on humans and the environment (IPCC, 2008). Climate change poses an additional stress to sufficient water availability and water quality in regions all over the world, which in turn directly determines the potential for food production and ecosystem sustainability. Still, most national or basin-level water management policies and plans do not mention climate change and adaptation programmes are not being integrated into sectoral (water) planning.
