ABSTRACT

As we noted in the Introduction to this volume, this collection is in many ways a continuation of the book Offender Supervision: New Directions in Theory, Research and Practice edited by McNeill et al. (2010). Some of the co-authors of that book are also in this one, presenting updated conclusions or different facets of their research. As well as continuing and developing the work of its precursor however, we suggested that this collection aimed to do more to connect criminology’s descriptive and prescriptive research agendas; its critical, explanatory and evaluative projects; and its institutional critical moments with its normative moments and with its moments of discovery. As well as explaining these various taxonomies and their relevance to the collection, we promised in the introductory chapter to end by assessing how far this collection helps us in making these connections and by considering what our next moves might be. However, before arriving at those concluding remarks, a brief summary of the contributions is required.
