ABSTRACT

Biotechnology is a word that can be thought of in many ways. It has been defined by a number of persons and organisations. However, one can simply think of it as the use of biological systems to produce or improve goods or services. The impact and potential of modern biotechnology has been widely debated not only by the scientific community, government agencies and international organisations, but most importantly by the public. The relationship between public opinion, government policy and decision-making is crucial in the adoption of biotechnology, the nature of which is determined in context by a particular set of factors.
