ABSTRACT

Paulus Orosius was a native of Spain, perhaps of Tarragonaaa Born about the year 390, he entered orders and was attached apparently to the clergy a t Bracara, in Gallecia. His admiration for Augustine brought him in 414 to I-Iippo. Augustine welcomed him kindly, and quickly recogniscd his real moral and intellectual3 qualities, and after keeping him a short time with him sent him to St Jerome in Palestine in order both to help him to finish his education in doctrine, and to transmit to Jerome by a trusty messenger certain questions on the origin of the soul," over which he was preoccupied a t that time.
