ABSTRACT

IN the foregoing pages I have endeavoured to convey an impression of some of the principal points of interest characteristic of a country more than usually rich in beauty of many kinds.

I find it impossible, however, within the space at my disposal adequately to describe even a portion of the special features which appealed to me during my tour of the country. Undoubtedly the most pronounced impression I received, and one forced upon me repeatedly while off the beaten track, is the amazing prodigality of nature.
