ABSTRACT

Instead of embarking from Naples, the Count and the Countess travelled rapidly by way of Rome and Florence to Lerici, whence a felucca safely transported them to Antibes. Formerly, on their way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle, Giuseppe and Lorenza Balsamo had stopped at this small town on the Corniche. Alexander and Serafina Cagliostro drove through southern France as far as Montpellier, by the same route the two pilgrims had taken. Then bearing northwest, they arrived on the 8th November, 1783, at Bordeaux.
