ABSTRACT

ONE of the ~ost interesting documents discovered in recent years is the so-called Carnarvon Tablet No, 1, found by Lord Carnarvon in a plundered tomb at Thebes in the year 1908.· It consists of a wooden board covered on both sides with stucco, and bearing on the obverse face a remarkable historical text, which deals with an episode in the expulsion of the Hyksos or Shepherd-Kings. The episode in question occurred in the reign of Kamose, the immediate predecessor of'the great A~mose I., the founder of the Eighteenth Dynasty.
