ABSTRACT

As discussed throughout this book, family violence presents major challenges for individuals who experience it. Consider, then, the additional challenges that family violence presents to individuals with other vulnerabilities, such as physical or cognitive impairments and/or disabilities, or chronic health conditions. In this chapter, we examine three populations that are uniquely vulnerable to family violence: individuals with disabilities, individuals infected with HIV/AIDS, and the elderly. This chapter’s focus is on understanding the dynamics of these phenomena as they relate to assessment and therapy.
