ABSTRACT
In America and other industrial nations that escaped the destruction of World War II, electrification evolved after Edison's time without traumatic interruption. While new elements were always added to existing infrastructure, and traditional practices were modified, the system never could – and probably never will – be wholly rejuvenated from scratch.
