ABSTRACT
DUlliNG my work on the Assir coast I learned a great deal about tribal life and organization, as well as of curious examples of Arab custom and mentality, information which proved very useful to me in my work, both then and later. On one occasion I had a rather striking example of the tricks that chance may play on the ignorant.
