ABSTRACT

For the first 15 or 20 years of my practice, I treated large numbers of adolescents. I still occasionally treat a few. It is my habit, when bringing people from the waiting room into my consulting room (which requires a walk down a hall of about 6 feet—see Figure 3, 380), to allow people to go in ahead of me. After they enter my office, they sit in the seat I have set aside for people I treat while I close the doors and then sit down, myself. Occasionally a teenager may, on entering, purposely expropriate my chair.
