ABSTRACT
John Frank Kermode, b. 1919, critic, editor, essayist, has been Lord Northcliffe Professor of Modern English Literature at University College, London, since 1967. Among his many studies are The Romantic Image (1957) and Modern Essays (1971), as well as books on Donne (1957), Milton (1960), Wallace Stevens (1960), and others.
