ABSTRACT

The Perennial Philosophy is a mine of curious and erudite learning. The running commentary is clear and vivid and there are a number of firstrate discussions of such topics as time, eternity, prayer, spiritual exercises, psychic influences, charity, solitude and so on. Nobody who reads the commentary can fail to recognize that he is in the presence of a mind both profound and acute, although he may find it hard not to raise the eyebrows of a mild surprise at finding Huxley believing apparently in the curative power of relics and idols, in spiritual presences incarnated in sacramental objects and in the objectification of ideas and memories.
