ABSTRACT
Though William Faulkner's books have already become collector's items, his work is by no means a closed issue; however much the writer of a preface might like to gesture easily towards accepted opinions and then retire, he can not attain this self-effacement in introducing Faulkner because there is no accepted opinion to invoke. Unfortunately, one has to make up his own mind.
