THE contention which identifies Claudius Gordianus Fulgentius, Bishop of Ruspa in Byzacene, with the mythologist Fabius Planciades Fulgentius is based on specious reasons, to say the least, drawn either from certain coincidences in their lives, or from certain analogies in their style.1
