ABSTRACT

This review encouraged a rapprochement between Pound and Chesterton. Pound had described him as one who 'creates a milieu in which art is impossible' (Letters, p. 171). In 1935 he was writing to Chesterton that 'I take it that we are all three [Pound, Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc] definitely against Shaw, Wells etc., paucity of perception' (letter of 17 December 1935, quoted in 'Verse is a Sword: Unpublished Letters of Ezra Pound', edited by Noel Stock, X: A Quarterly (October 1960), i, 263).
