ABSTRACT

THE Churches of the Balkan Peninsula may occupy our attention next after those of the Four Eastern Patriarchates, and their offshoots. They are the Churches of Bulgaria, Jugoslavia, Rumania and Greece. As part of the <Ecumenical Patriarchate they all fell, with it, under the yoke of the Turk; and it is convenient to take them together and in this order, because it was in this order that their several countries began to emerge into nationality in conflict with the ruling power at Constantinople, whether Roman or Turk.
