ACONSIDERABLE preparation, five chapters long, has fitted us for the final enquiry as to the origin of the druids and of druidism. But though we
are packed for the journey, I confess I am tempted to delay the start. For, to begin with, it is clear that we are discussing a very elusive substance, and are not likely to make much headway unless we define our objective with some precision.
