ABSTRACT

During his lifetime, Ian McHarg frequently described the sprawling American suburbs with a fable. A world cataclysmic event has eliminated every living thing with one exception: groups of amoeba have found refuge in a deep lead-lined crack many hundreds of feet below the surface of the earth. Over time, these creatures begin to discuss the future of life on earth. What, or who, should come next? And what about Homo sapiens? The discussion gets hotter and hotter and more and more cantankerous as they struggle with this problem. But at last they reach consensus. Next time, no brains.
