In reading a signature and the information often accompanying it on Japan ese works of a rt, two successive tasks have to be perform ed: first , i ts di ssection into th e separa te names and words comp osing it, and, second , th e determination of the nature of th e elements thus dissect ed, and, consequentl y, of th e manner in which th ey should be read.
