ABSTRACT
Man alone is less sensitive to Nature's moods. But his defective instinct is compensated by his power of thought and his intelligent observation. As soon as an accurate fore-knowledge of the seasons became essential to primitive human society-as soon as men found that, without it, no crops could be gathered and no successful hunting done-necessity spurred the human mind to the making of the first rude calendar.
