ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the efforts of the Royal St Lucian Police Force (RSLPF) to introduce new practices in its recruit training programme and some of the important challenges faced as part of that process. Drawing on research data, it specifically examines the perceptions of key actors responsible for introducing these changes and some of the factors driving that process. Data about recruit responses to and perceptions of their basic training will also be examined. The chapter explores some of the constraints in reforming recruit training which reflect broader organizational problems limiting the transformation of a post-colonial police organization.
