WHEN I first came to China the Manchus wereruling the country, the boy emperor who is now the adult but powerless ruler of Manchukuo was seated on the dragon throne, Sun Vat Sen was a political refugee and the revolutionary movement which was soon to upset the monarchy was so obscure and so timorously concealed that few of us knew that it existed. But the Manchus knew about the activities of the revolutionists and took no chances with them.
