ABSTRACT

In the last decade, at least thirteen higher education institutions (Heis) in Ireland have developed formal accredited programmes or modules in teaching and learning in higher education. This chapter outlines the factors that encouraged and enabled the development of these accredited programmes and provides an overview of commonalities and differences between them. In describing these programmes, reference is made to the trends in their structure, learning outcomes, and assessment. The methodology used to collect this information was through content analysis of various documents including programme handbooks, course Web sites, and module descriptors of available accredited programmes.
