ABSTRACT
His mission, during his existence, was to shape the universe as it is now known, and he is usually represented holding a chisel and fashioning great masses of rock, floating in space. Sun, moon and stars, constructed before he turned his attention to earth, are depicted in the gaps he has hewn out of the granite, and his companions are the four superintelligent creatures, dragon, tiger, phoenix and tortQise.· These are the progenitors of the animal kingdom. His labours-continued for eighteen thousand years, and, to cope with his gigantic task he increased in stature six feet every day.
