ABSTRACT

Another tableau was the "Yang Shang Shu" ( $.J:tbt ) or Lamb up a tree, to commemorate an incident where the monarch suspended a lamb in a branch as bait for a marauding tiger, which he despatched with an arrow and saved the lamb's life. A third of his adventures with tigers is the depiction of his meeting the beast in a farmyard when he was unarmed. By picking up the winnowing fan, and scraping the teeth with a stick he prevailed upon the tiger to take flight.
