ABSTRACT

In Hunan the dragon is again made of paper, with a patterned material for the scales. Its complement only consists of three men for head, body and tail, with a leader for the pearl in front. Twelve others precede the parade with banners, and musicians follow behind. The cortege then makes the round of the village, and is welcomed by the heads of families, burning incense, and letting off firecrackers. The dragon's head is then decorated with a strip of white cloth three feet long by an inch wide, for which modest emolument it performs the dance.
