ABSTRACT
According to the history of the Chou Dynasty, the Emperor Mu ( fJ3:), in 985 B.C., was entertained by the Queen of the West at the Lake of Gems, and the Emperor Wu Ti (:lit~ ), of the Han Dynasty, paid her a visit round about 100 B.C. Mu Wang (fJ3:), the first to make contact, was accompanied by his eight favourite horses, which have retained their popularity with artists and foreigners ever since.
