ABSTRACT
Ghostly society in Chinese folklore is composed of all the elements found in a mundane community, from the benevolent magistrate to the criminal classes. Spirits of the departed can right injustice, or take revenge for injuries suffered in their earthly existence. There are vampires and mischievous poltergeists, as well as the spirits of those who have met an tlllllatural death. These are greatly feared as their only means of redemption is to lure a living soul to destruction as a substitute for their own.
