ABSTRACT

The left-hand inscription refers to the "Old Banyan tree' (:it~ ;ill ), and the right-hand divinity is the local Tu Ti, or Earth God, who is roughly hewn in granite. The demon-dispelling divinities are completed by a clay tiger with green marble eyes, who has an incense burner to himself, and may be worshipped separately. Though off the beaten track, for only a narrow path leads up the hill, the shrine is evidently well patronised.
