Another striking instance of the beneficial ef1'0c1.;; of Adult Schools, is that of George Culverwell, Ly trade a shoemaker, a uative of Portbury, in Somerset, residing at Bath. Although he was put to school when a boy, he profited ve.ry little thereby, and refused to continue. From bis youth he was much addicted to swearing, quarrelling, and fighting. As he grew up, he gave way 10 vicious habits and drank to excess, so much so that he has frequently been in a state of intoxication for more than a week together.
