ABSTRACT

From tlze TT~omells' School ill Brick Lane -" The success with which I ha\-e been favoured, since I undertook the charge of this school, has greatly encouraged me; althollgh, at the commencement, I had ouly three learncrs, I ha\-e at prcsent twenty-six; and feel happy to state that, notwithstanding they were all totally unacquainted with the Alphabet when they entered the school, yet, within the space of seven months, twenty of them ha\'e learned to read tolerably well in the New Testament. The seriousness of many of their cmmtenances, accompanied by a correspondent deportment, affords a proof that they ha\-e gathered solid instruction from the Holy Scriptures."
