ABSTRACT

From the ,foregoing extracts, we learn that six schools were in existence before the expiration of the first year, the 27th of the 2nd Month (February), 1816. By letters I have received of a subsequent date, from S. \Yhitehead and D. Bringhurst, some very important additions have heen made to the Dumber of these humble, but highly beneficial, seminaries in Philadelphia. One of these letters mentions that "a company of young persons have opened two other s~hools in the center and lower parts of the city; tl:ey are held two evenings in the week, at each place; and those who choose to do so, attend both these schools, by ,,,lticl! they have a double opportullity of acquiring knO\vledge. In these are about sixty learners, whose improvement afrords much encouragement to their friends to proceed in their labours of love; and the poor are ,-cry grateful for the pains bestowed upon them.
