ABSTRACT

The sleepy-eyed, mustached young man named Vega looked up at the portrait of the masked man in the dress of a Spanish don of Old California. Then, the young man pressed a hidden switch and the life-size portrait opened inward to reveal a secret passage. He went into that passage, down a stone staircase and entered an alcove where stood his faithful horse, El Rey. Swiftly, he changed his foppish garments for ones like those of the man in the portrait—he stood garbed and masked in black. Mounting his fine horse, out of his secret cave rode the avenging phantom known for the cunning and stealth of the fox— Zorro.
