ABSTRACT
During a hectic Saturday afternoon in a mint-cool movie theatre, we cheered the cliffhanger heroes—Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon, Kirk Alyn as Superman, Ralph Byrd as Dick Tracy, and all the others. But, at times, it often seemed that the star of the serial was the villain, so much was he center stage, and at times the actor playing the menace literally got top billing.
