ABSTRACT

This investigation has undertaken an overall analysis of populism from a wide selection of angles: theoretical approaches, a methodological schema, and a thorough empirical analysis of a case study to determine, to what extent if any, populism is practiced, as well as its emergence, socio-political construction, crystallization, and democratic success. This in-depth analysis of Venezuela's contemporary political crisis uses the genealogical background to contextualize and thus comprehend the nature, practice, and significance of populist discourse and strategies in this deeply dichotomized society.
