ABSTRACT

Buddhism is the largest field of human thought, and the history of Buddhism shows that when the Teaching reached a new country the inhabitants of that country would choose, of this wide range of philosophy, morality, metaphysics, religion, ritual and culture, those aspects or doctrines most helpful to their spiritual needs. Thus the Buddhism of Tibet, of China and of Japan is in outward form and relative emphasis widely different from the Theravada, and each is different from each other.
