EGYPTwasearlypeopledbyacivilizedrace.MenesorMisraim,thesonofHam,thefirstking,foundedthekingdomin theyearoftheworld1816,or,accordingtothecommonlyreceivedchronology,2188yearsbeforeChrist.Egypthasever beenconsideredbytheancientsasthecradleofthesciences,and thenurseryofthearts.Thewonderfulmonumentsofantiquityinwhichitaboundsareunequalledinanyland,andfar surpassthegreatestworksofmoderntimes.Itspyramids,its palaces,itstemples,anditstombs,aretheastonishmentand admirationofmankind.Itsfertility,causedbytheannual overflowofthemysteriousNile,wasasfamousasitsnoble worksofart,andtheteemingsoilenabledanalmostincredible multitudeofinhabitantstoresidewithinitscircumscribedlimits.
