Thoughthesecountriesarenawpoliticallyunitedinoneimperirilwhole,yettheywerelongseparatekingdoms,withantagonisticinterests,andwhileso,thisbranchofthetradepossessed distinctfeatures,ineachpeculiartoitselfalone.InsomerespectstheLinentradeintherespectivesub-divisionsofthe kingdomarenowidentical,butinotherstheystilldiffer,andit isperhapsbetterforthegeneralprosperitythattheyshoulddoso. Eachhasstruckoutapathforitself,whichIQaybeprosecuted successfullywithoutinjurytotheothers,andeachcantherefore withoutjealousyrejoiceintheprosperityoftheirbrethren, Thegeneralwealwillbebestservedbyeachkingdomcontinuingtoprosecuteassiduouslyitsownadoptedfabrics.This willengendernorivalry,exceptingtheverylegitimateoneof eachofthreekingdomstryingwhichwillcastthebrightest haloaroundtheLinentradeoftheEmpire.
