Depending on the definition that is being used, the number of international students varies from 2.8 million in 2007 (according to the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS)) 1 to 2.9 million in 2006 (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)) (Clark, 2009).
