ABSTRACT
As has been previously stated, 1 the modern consumers' co-operative movement had its birth in Rochdale, England, in 1843. IT was on the twenty-first of December of that year that twenty-eight desperately poor flannel weavers, organized the Rochdale Equitable Pioneer Society, flung open the doors of their tiny shop in Toad Lane, Rochdale, and displayed for sale to their members their $70 stock of flour, oatmeal, butter, and sugar.
